Mmamidi Finds Her Niche In Setswana Cuisine

Mmamidi finds her niche in Setswana cuisine. 29 Year old Tshepiso Marumo otherwise known as Mmamidi is the founder and owner of the famous Setswana cuisine food brand Mmamidi. The brand name was given to her by clients during her days of selling maize corn around the corners of Gaborone. A true example of hard work forever pays Marumo was able to turn what started with just a P100.00 note and 30 cobs of maize corn for two years ago into a thriving business.

The business has since birthed two food stalls within reach of Gaborone’s central business district as well as Block 8. Marumo has found solace in food and catering and is positive that her business will continue to grow through the society’s continued support. She does not think she can ever work an office job anymore as she continues to enjoy running her own turf and the fruits that come as a result thereof. Mmamidi is operated by 11 employees across both stalls and attracts at least 150 customers a day or more.

Mmamidi has a mouth-watering menu, serving paleche, bogobe jwa lerotse, dikgobe, dinawa tsa korong, veggies, seswaa, koko ya setswana and nama ya kgomo, oxtail and madombi valued at P35.00 a plate. She also sells home-made ginger juice (gemere) and a variety of soft drinks to go with the meal. Mmamidi as a brand stands out and derives its uniqueness from their menu which taps into the Setswana culture. The place is also very clean with staff members practicing extreme hygiene. She hopes to expand her business in the near future and possibly look into franchising the brand that is Mmamidi.
