Kgomotso Phatsima Taking Over Aviation

Kgomotso Phatsima taking over aviation! She is the President and Founder of Dare to Dream and is among the first female military pilots in the Botswana Defence Force. Dare to Dream is a social enterprise based at Botswana Innovation Hub Science and Technology Park, founded in 2008, dedicated to the advancement of young women and girls in STEM as well as Aviation and Aerospace.

Phatsima said goodbye to the Botswana Defence Force in April 2019 after a 10 year service and commitment to fully focus on the Foundation and pave way for her Aviation Charter Business. She has been at the forefront of women in aviation, driving change advancing girls in STEM careers more especially in rural and disadvantaged areas. Dare to Dream has partnered with AIRBUS, one of the largest aircraft manufacturers in the world to inspire the upcoming generation especially the girl child to consider careers and business opportunities in STEM.

In May 2021 Dare to Dream was chosen by CNN International as one of the continent’s trailblazers in the field of technology, and paid a visit to Botswana in the same month to shoot the documentary for the African Voice’s Changemakers Program. The organization’s reputation precedes itself and as such carved a name for itself on international spaces. Back home Dare to Dream has gone the extra mile to partner with FNBB Foundation on a Youth Accelerator Program to offer young people the ages of 18-35 skills that include CV writing, social media and digital branding, entrepreneurship and mentorship.

In 2017 Phatsima was recognized as Botswana Youth Awards Best Female of the Year. She was also selected by the Obama Foundation as one of the most exceptional brilliant young emerging leaders changing the narrative of our communities, our country and the African Continent. She is also the alumni of the International Visitor Leadership Tour of the USA. A commercial licensed Pilot from the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana, Phatsima has further been recognized by Her Majesty the Queen, British High Commission as the 80th Commonwealth Point of Light Award Winner. Phatsima is a woman of many talents and these are only but a few of her long list of achievements and accolades.
