Minister of Agricultural Development & Food, Ms Beauty Manake Encourages Nonny Penelope

The Assistant Minister of Agricultural Development & Food, Ms Beauty Manake has encouraged Nonny Penelope Wright, a young farmer operating in Ngamiland, not to be deterred by the trials and tribulations that she faces every day in her farming enterprise.

Through her company, Lopey Inc, Wright operates Sereledi Farm, a dairy enterprise that processes raw milk into sour milk, fresh milk and yoghurt for distribution in Maun and surrounding areas.

She also operates Yabarati Farm in Chanoga, where she intends to produce feed through irrigation. As a young farmer, Wright motivates aspiring young farmers by organising numerous agribusiness events like the Botswana Young Farmers Field Day and the Letsema Campaign.

One of her biggest challenges is access to water, as the water at Sereledi Farm is saline and unfit for consumption by dairy cows. When giving a word of advice, Ms Manake encouraged Wright to be patient, as government was willing to support her to develop into a successful dairy farmer. “Patience and perseverance are the most important virtues of a farmer. It takes time and a willingness to work things out. We have brought government and its agencies to help you and other farmers work things out,” she said
