AND THE AWARD GOES TO!

The Gaborone International Convention Centre was filled with cheer and applaud as the Botswana Music Union (BOMU) hosted its 11th music awards ceremony this past Saturday.

The talented Lushene Kebatlege also known as Dj Ngwazi dominated the awards night with four awards for Best Music Video, Best Dance Music, Best Collaboration and Best Newcomer all thanks to his smashing hit ‘Uthando’ after being nominated for seven categories. Dj Ngwazi was not the only star in the building as the song bird Mpho Sebina went home with three awards under her belt for Best RnB, Album of the Year and Best International Achievement awards.

Eskimos ‘Basimane ba Gwawa’ the legendary Kwaito group which have been in the music scene for the past 20 years also received recognision for Best Kwaito and Best Duo/ Group whilst Kabelo Tiro, known as Scavenger received Song of the Year award with Bagammangwato, the legendary Lifetime Achievement award went to Phempheretlhe Pheto.

The Beat Hip Hop award was won by Baxon as the ‘Danko’ hitmaker Ezra Neethlings won Best Afro Pop, Best Traditional Song award went to Ditiro Leero while Monnamogolo took away the Best Folksong music award.

The award night was young as it was uplifted by performance from Perion of Lejebejebe, Eskimos rocked the crowed with their pantsula/kwaito moves and Dj Ngwazi was spinning the deck with his smash his ‘Uthando’.
