WOMEN IN NEWS MAKES A MOVE

The Government of Botswana is working on developing policies in collaboration with Women in News (WIN) which are for women in media and also help support issues surrounding gender balance.

The Director Africa of Women in News, Miss. Jane Godia, stated during a courtesy call to the Minister For State President Hon. Kabo Morwaeng that Women in News partners with media organizations and individuals from 17 partnering countries across the globe to close the gender gap in newsrooms.

She further mentioned that their program is there to empower people and organisations to work together in support each other. The move to collaborate with the Government of Botswana is to come up with new policies that will help prevent sexual harassment and promote safety for women in the newsrooms.

Minister Morwaeng acknowledged the Women in News’ request pointing out that it is in the interest of the Botswana Government to be inclusive and maintain the freedom of journalists.
