HEAVY RAINFALL LEAVES BEHIND A TRAIL OF DESTRUCTION

On Tuesday, the great city Gaborone experienced heavy rainfalls which caused damage around the city from fallen trees to 23 homes in Old Naledi which have been swept away by the rain storm.

Gaborone City Mayor, Augustin Abraham mentioned during a media brief following the heavy rainfall that there are families in Old Naledi who have been affected by the Tuesday rain.

“The houses which were smoothly affected at Old Naledi ward. In some instances in Old Naledi ward, some houses were waterlogged. The 23 families which are accommodated in one of the churches in Old Naledi come from the same area,” said the mayor.

He pointed out that there were some areas around the city that have been affected by the horrible rain being Notwane, Tsholofelo, Bosele, Maruapula as furniture’s and vehicles have been damaged. He added to say that Gaborone roads have been affected as some have been washed away by the rain with 8 electrical poles were brought down.

The Mayor mentioned that the council and other departments where doing everything possible to work around the clock to repair the damage done on the road and give food and clothing hampers to the families that have been affected by the bad weather.
