BOTSWANA RISES FROM THE ROUGH

The development of Botswana has been in a speedy pace and has lifted itself up from one of the lowest developed countries with its authentic diamonds.

The Minister of Minerals and Energy, Mr. Lefoko Moagi indicated during the Natural Diamonds Summit dinner that Botswana is at its prime with natural diamonds it has as it presented its consumers with high end gemstones.

Minister Moagi continued to elaborate that the discovery of Orapa kimberlite field has made Botswana the world’s largest producer of natural diamonds by value. The country has sought to leverage on its utilisation of diamonds for development experience to engage in downstream and value chain industries in order to further finance sustainable development.

Kimberly Process chairperson, Mr Jacob Thamage mentioned during the summit dinner that the mechanism had made a big impact in the diamond trade value chain of Botswana which has been in expansion over the past five decades. The mechanism brings together governments, civil society and industry players to share expertise and insights on preventing the blood diamond trade.
