PLANS TO INTENSIFY ORDER BY 2024

The Minister of Defence and Security, Mr Kagiso Mmusi mentioned during a media briefing that the government shall construct 27 mini police stations by 2024 in efforts to fight against crime which is increasing in Botswana.

So far, 1000 police officers have been recruited and the other batch is to graduate from the Police College by January 2023, this mass number of police officers will help fight and reduce crime and also it help improve police visibility around the country.

He further pointed out that the increase number of attacks which are related to cash-in-transit heists and ATM bombings led to the immediate alliance of law enforcement agencies being private security companies and banking stakeholders which helped with the reduction of the ATM bombing incidents.

The Botswana Police Service and the Directorate on Intelligence and Security Services (DISS) were working hand in hand to bring the country to a peaceful state of lower crimes as it was.

Mr. Mmusi said so far Botswana has registered 15 and 21 ATM bombings and cash-in-transit heists and about millions of Pula were stolen, the Botswana Police Service will continue to support private security companies with escorts during cash-in-transit operations.
