PHASE ONE OF SATELLITE PROJECT READY TO COMMERCE

The Botswana Satellite project (BOTSAT 1) phase 1 ground communication station has been built and is set up for commissioning as it is fully operational and has been tested by team expects.

“The ground communication station is the key component of the satellite space programme which upon commissioning will start receiving data from other existing satellites,” said the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BUIST) Vice Chancellor for research, development and innovation Professor Abraham Ogwu.

He further mentioned that once the BOTSAT 1 is launched in space, it would send back useful satellite data through the communication system which will help solve agricultural and tourism industry challenges as well as influence smart farming and real-time virtual tourism.

The BOTSAT 1 project will help with innovate students, researchers, scientists and even engineers with relevant skills for a sustainable indigenous satellite programme.
