Human Resources Manager – Employee Relations

Closing Date:  19 August 2021
Location:  Jwaneng, Botswana

Purpose of the Role

To develop and foster sound employee relations/communication strategy through monitoring and analysing workplace, company policies, procedures, and practices advising management accordingly.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Analyses the divisional area’s financial needs to develop a budget and ensures sufficient financial resources to meet business needs
  • Manages and controls allocated funds and operates within approved parameters
  • Develops and implements Employee Relations plans for the operation and facilitates the enhancement of employer- employee relationships
  • Audits Company Policies and Procedures, collective Labour Agreements and Employee Relations structures and recommends changes to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and compatibility with the Company’s Employee Relations philosophy
  • Monitors the consistent application of procedural and substantive fairness in grievance and disciplinary issues, by reviewing and evaluating the impact of decisions and advising HOD’s directly and /or through the ER Advisors office
  • Facilitates and participates in the negotiation process on substantive and operational issues and advises the Company’s Negotiating Team
  • Develops and implements systems and processes that enhance employee relations management
  • Represents the company in mediation, arbitration and at the Industrial Court
  • Develops and reviews employee relations policies and procedures and advises management on problem areas and labour issues including collective bargaining techniques
  • Advises and guides the business in all facets of Employee Relations, ensures fair and consistent application thereof and that sound ER practices are promoted
  • Manages and monitors Employee Relations Training for the mine by analysing the Mine needs and trends, changes in legislation, and Employee Relations Environment
  • Researches and analyses trends on Employee Relations climate nationally and regionally eg. industrial court rulings and labour disputes outcomes and makes recommendations on new changes and/or implements changes that would lead to improved efficiency
  • Provides an employee relations consultancy service to both Management and the Union including advise to both parties on what is impacting their relationship
  • Identifies and manages the implementation of and adherence to legal and corporate governance principles/requirements
  • Identifies the need for capacity building on both Management and the Union and develop appropriate interventions to address the deficiency
  • Manages and coordinates the implementation of safety, health and environmental programme in area of responsibility
  • Manages subordinates key effectiveness areas by setting, monitoring and reviewing performance and taking remedial action as necessary
  • Oversees the implementation of the departmental talent management initiatives by ensuring the right competence and effectiveness of manpower (capacity building) through developing and implementing career, localization/succession, training and development
  • Implements knowledge management principles through application of tools and methodologies to continuously improve and sustain business performance
  • Identifies and implements creative and innovative ideas to continuously improve and sustain business performance
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with all key stakeholders and partners to ensure achievement of business objectives

Other Job Responsibilities

  • Adheres to all safety health and environmental policies and procedures in areas of responsibility

Education

  • Bachelors Degree in Social Sciences or relevant discipline or equivalent

Experience

  • 7 years post graduate experience in Human Resources Management, of which 2 years should have been at middle management level in employee relations or generic HR environment.
