UNITED NATIONS INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

The United Nations International Day for people with Disabilities is celebrated on the 3rd of December every year and globally with an aim of creating an awareness surrounding issues pertaining to people with and living with disabilities.

Assistant Minister of Health, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe said during the commemoration that recognision and observance of this day was to ensure the wellbeing and consider the rights of people with disabilities were prioritised in all the policies, programmes and projects so that they were not subject to systematic exclusion, prejudice and discrimination.

Ten wheelchairs where donated during the commemoration by Asphalt Botswana and Tlou Drilling, also present during the commemoration in Letlhakane was Beauty Queen for People with disability, Rachael Mapii with her forerunners, Pogisego Shapa and Goitseone Kgobatlhe, who took first and second positions respectively, were present as well as UNDP representative, Ms Helen Andreason

Deputy permanent secretary to the President, Ms Matshediso Bokole gave the overview of the day which ended with touring of the stalls which some were owned by people with disabilities living in the Letlhakane area.
