FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: SKMTH OPENS NEPHROLOGY AND PHARMACY SERVICES

Sir Ketumile Masire Teaching Hospital (SKMTH) notifies the media that the Hospital will start offering Nephrology (Renal Care) and Pharmacy services from the 23rd of December 2022. SKMTH will receive referrals from both public and private healthcare providers for patients needing specialised renal care services. Various funders and Medical Aids, including the Government of Botswana through the Ministry of Health, will pay for patient care. SKMTH will also assist referred self-paying patients.
Renal services will target the prevention, diagnosis and management of kidney diseases in Botswana, at world standards. The unit has thirteen (13) beds and seven (7) treatment points which will enable the Hospital to assist fourteen (14) patients per day. It will serve both in and outpatients. The Unit has the capability of administering Haemodialysis treatment to both paediatrics and adults.
Renal Care services include:
• Hypertension Clinic
• Glomerulonephritis and Pre-dialysis clinic
• Dialysis Services (Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis)
• Kidney transplantation Clinic when the Hospital is fully functional.
Our Pharmacy Department will provide a comprehensive range of drugs and consumables at affordable prices to both in and outpatients. The Pharmacy will initially open at 08:00 – 17:00 but will ultimately be a 24 hours service; stakeholders will be updated.
The Hospital provides excellent, compassionate patient-centred care in collaboration with partners and stakeholders to build patient trust for sustainable healthcare.

Sir Ketumile Masire Teaching Hospital (SKMTH) is the first quaternary healthcare facility established to address identified gaps in the healthcare industry in Botswana. SKMTH is registered as a company limited by guarantee wholly owned by the Government of Botswana established under the Companies Act Cap 42:01. SKMTH has been licenced to operate as a private hospital.
SKMTH mandate is threefold:
• To deliver patient-centered care for specialised healthcare services, at the quaternary level.
• To teach and facilitate the development of healthcare professionals; and
