SADC EXECUTIVE SECRETARY H.E. MR. ELIAS M. MAGOSI REAFFIRMS THE REGION’S COMMITMENT TO IMPLEMENT THE RISDP 2020- 2030

The Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), H.E. Mr. Elias M. Magosi, has reaffirmed that the SADC Regional Agenda and Programme will remain guided by the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) 2020-2030 during his tenure. The Executive Secretary said this on 15 September 2021 when he received courtesy calls by the Ambassador and Head of Delegation of the European Union to Botswana and SADC, H.E. Amb. Jan SADEK; Ambassador of France and Special Representative of SADC, H.E. Amb. Laurence Beau; German Ambassador and Special Representative to SADC, H.E. Amb. Margit Hellwig Boette and Ambassador of the United States to Botswana and Representative to SADC, H.E Craig L Cloud.

The purpose of the courtesy calls was to exchange introductory pleasantries between the parties, following the appointment of Mr Magosi as SADC Executive Secretary on 1st September 2021, and to exchange views on strengthening development cooperation between the parties. The SADC Executive Secretary underscored the important role of international cooperation partners to support the implementation of the RISDP 2020-2030 and towards the achievement of the SADC Vision 2050. On this note, he pledged to strengthen existing engagement mechanisms between SADC and cooperating partners in order to accelerate regional integration and social economic development.

In their remarks, the ambassadors pledged to continue strengthening their long standing collaboration and partnership with SADC to promote regional integration and development in line with the priorities set out in the SADC RISDP and Vision 2050. The SADC RISDP 2020-2030 is the region’s approved 10-year strategic plan which has outlined strategic priority areas covering Peace, Security, and Good Governance; Industrial Development and Market Integration; Infrastructure Development in Support of Regional Integration; Social and Human Capital Development; Cross-cutting issues including Gender, Youth, Environment and Climate Change, and Disaster Risk  Management; and Strategic Management.
