Press Release- Botswana And Namibia To Hold Joint Community Meetings In The Chobe District, Botswana And Zambezi Region, Namibia

GABORONE, 2nd September 2021: The Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation wishes to inform that Honourable Dr. Lemogang Kwape, Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation, will together with his counterpart Honourable Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of Namibia, address community meetings in the Chobe District, Botswana and Zambezi Region, Namibia.

The meetings will take place from 2nd to 3rd September 2021, with the border communities in Kasane and Katima Mulilo.

The community engagements are in response to a decision taken by the Heads of State, His Excellency Dr. Mokgweetsi E. K. Masisi, President of the Republic of Botswana, and His Excellency Dr. Hage G. Geingob, President of the Republic of Namibia, for the two Foreign Ministers to engage communities in the border area.

The meetings aim to encourage the communities to foster peaceful coexistence, good neighborliness and fruitful cooperation. The meetings will also afford the Honourable Ministers the opportunity to inform on the developments which have taken place following the shooting incident which occurred in the area on 5th November 2020.

Honourable Dr. Kwape will be accompanied by the Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Honourable Mr. Kagiso Mmusi and the Chobe Area Member of Parliament and Assistant Minister of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology, Honourable Mr. Machana R. Shamukuni.
